Chapter 3

Stuart made a conscious decision not to hold his breath while waiting for Matthew to answer him. It was a wise choice. Hours seemed to pass before the other man spoke.

"For the rest of the evening, or until you say red," Matthew finally offered.

Stuart nodded so rapidly he risked giving himself whiplash, but it wasn't until he followed Matthew's line of sight that Stuart realised that hadn't been his only gesture. His hand had automatically gone to his opposite wrist.

He'd writhed against the belt hard enough to make his wrists slightly sore. After an entire evening spent that way, the skin there would be--

"You won't be tied up the whole time."

Stuart shook his head. "I don't mind--"

Matthew leaned down the sofa and pressed a knuckle against Stuart's lips. "That's not what I have planned for tonight."

"Okay," Stuart whispered against the knuckle.

"Fetch the collar from the bedroom."

Stuart was back within seconds. He held out the collar toward Matthew. He was doing the right thing, he was sure of that. The sooner he knew just how different things might be between him and Matthew, and how different Matthew would prove to be compared to Richard, the better.

Sitting down next to Matthew, Stuart brought his neck into easy range. Matthew's hands were perfectly steady as he fastened the collar around his throat. He leaned back then, as if to admire the view. Stuart pushed his hands into his pockets before he could resort to fidgeting.

"The collar stays on," Matthew said. "Everything else comes off."

Stuart stood, pulled his hands out of his pockets, and reached for the hem of his T-shirt. This wasn't a scary thing. Matthew had seen him naked hundreds of times since they started dating. Nudity wasn't a problem. Hell, it wasn't that long since he'd put his clothes back on.

Even knowing all those very sensible, logical facts, Stuart found himself unable to remember a single instance in all the time they'd spent together when Matthew had simply sat there and watched him strip. Of all the stupid things, he felt the heat rush to his cheeks, but that had to be his imagination. He was sure he couldn't actually be blushing like a virgin.

Matthew had his arms crossed. He didn't reach out to Stuart. He didn't move toward him. He didn't even offer any additional orders. He just sat and watched.

Stuart had never felt like he was under such intense scrutiny in his whole life. He worked more quickly, wanting it to be over and done with as soon as possible. If Matthew was going to keep him naked all evening, Stuart knew that the sooner he got used to it the easier it would be. The trick was, he guessed, to stop thinking of being naked as a good thing or a bad thing, but accepting it as the way things were.

T-shirt, shoes, socks, jeans, one by one he tossed them all aside. His boxers were soon the only thing that remained. He hooked his thumbs into the elastic, pushed the thin cotton fabric down his legs and stepped out of them.
